Ametrine

Ametrine

Ametrine is the naturally occurring variety of quartz where the colours of amethyst and citrine appear in the same crystal.  It is particularly associated with Bolivia, where most of the commercially available material comes from, however, there are also mines in India & Brazil.  The most prized pieces have a strong and central colour division of amethyst and citrine.  Emerald cuts and baguettes are the best cuts to show the division of colours.  Other cuts, such as ovals and rounds often appear mottled and mixed-up, however, excellent cutters can sometimes use the colour to stunning effect in a variety of cuts.   O’Neils Affiliated endeavour to have a range of natural ametrine in stock at all times.
