Spessartite Garnet

The most famed colour of spessartite is the intensely saturated, crisp, pure oranges, also known to the trade as ‘mandarin garnet’.  Although this is the most valuable type, spessartite also occurs in most shades of orange from pale yellowish-orange through to intense deep red-orange.  Value reduces with the quality of colour and the presence and prominence of inclusions, which are common.  Important mining areas of spessartite include; Namibia, Nigeria, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Brazil, Myanmar (Burma), Madagascar and USA (California).
